Our Love Story

Neither of us was actively looking for love when we met.

Roy hadn’t been single for long and was focused on work and getting into great physical shape. He’d been training with the same personal trainer for over a decade. While he and the trainer often chatted during sessions and texted about scheduling, dating seriously never came up—until one day, out of the blue, the trainer called him. That alone was surprising—he never called about dating someone. But this time, he had something different in mind: he wanted to set Roy up with someone; even if just as friends.

That someone was Yvonne.

Yvonne had just about given up on dating. Dallas hadn’t exactly been kind to her dating life, and she was genuinely content—her kids were older, she had a great job, and she was traveling with friends. She’d always said she’d only consider dating someone if it happened “organically,” through a mutual connection—not on any dating apps. And while she had her prayers and hopes for a kind, loving, and God-sent partner, she wasn’t actively searching.

When the trainer called Yvonne—also unexpectedly—she assumed something was wrong, since their communication had always been over text. Instead, he was buzzing with excitement, convinced he had the perfect person for her. Trusting that he knew her well enough by then, she agreed to share her number.

Roy called that very night.

From their very first conversation, everything felt easy—natural, even. There was an immediate sense of connection. She was open and warm; he was inquisitive and thoughtful. The two of them talked like they’d known each other forever.

They set their first date for Sunday, February 19, 2023. Roy was incredibly nervous—he hadn’t been on a date in 35 years and even made a list of conversation starters in his phone just in case things got awkward. The moment Yvonne walked into the restaurant, everything changed. She was even more beautiful in person, and any nerves he had instantly disappeared.

They sat down and started talking—and didn’t stop. The hours flew by like minutes. They ended up closing down Town Hearth, still deep in conversation at 10:30 PM, even though the restaurant had closed at 9:00 PM. The staff began cleaning around them and eventually, gently, had to ask them to leave.

Roy never needed to check his notes, though he still keeps them as a sweet reminder of how nervous he was—and how unnecessary that ended up being.

From that night on, both of them knew something rare had begun. For Roy, Yvonne quickly became his best friend, his partner and his teammate. For Yvonne, that night was a clear answer to her prayers—proof that God’s timing is always perfect.

Now, they walk through life hand in hand, grateful they trusted that one unexpected phone call—and even more grateful they found home in each other. Together, they face each day with love, laughter, and the unwavering strength of knowing they are a team in every sense of the word.
